In addition to being a great educational institution, The North Bennet Street School also does a good job of connecting students with prospective employers and finding commissions for individual projects from people looking for a craftspersons touch.
When I noticed the posting looking for a custom pottery display from ceramics maker Jennfier Erickson, I thought this would be a great opportunity to do some design work and hone my furniture making abilities. Jennifer was a pleasure to work with and her simple instructions to make a fully collapsible stand that could fit her compact Honda Civic gave me freedom to create something unique. Jennifer was extremely happy with the finished product which she will use in her first event this month. The supports and cross pieces of the stand are made of Maple and the shelves are made of Maple plywood with solid Maple edge details. More info on Jen's pottery at her website http://www.jennericksonart.com/ My initial CAD drawing and final photos of the stand are shown below.
